Jordan - Travel Report
$5.95
The capital is Amman. While Jordan is modern and Western-oriented, Islamic ideals and beliefs provide the conservative foundation of the country’s customs, laws and practices. The local workweek for Jordanian government offices and most businesses is Saturday through Thursday. The U.S. Embassy in Amman is open Sunday through Thursday. The primary export partners of Jordan are the United States, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, India, the European Union, Indonesia, Syria and Malaysia. The predominant religion in Jordan is Sunni Muslim so most of the traditional Sunni Muslim holidays are observed by the majority of the Jordanian population. Major hotels and travel agencies accept international credit cards. ATM machines are available and disperse local currency. There are moneychangers at the airport, major hotels, and urban areas. The holy month of Ramadan should be respected with abstention from food and drink during the daylight. Alcohol is not served in public places during Ramadan. The import and export of local and foreign currency is unlimited, restricted only to declaration upon arrival. Travelers checks should be brought in U.S. Currency to avoid additional exchange rate charges.
