Afghanistan's economic outlook has improved significantly over the past two years because of the infusion of over $2 billion in international assistance. The primary products of Afghanistan are opium, fruits, nuts, hand woven carpets, wool, cotton and gems. Afghanistan 's economy operates on a "cash-only" basis for most transactions. Credit cards are not accepted in Afghanistan and there are no Automatic Teller Machines. Travelers checks are not recommended. Most people rely on satellite or cellular telephone communications even to make local calls. Cellular phone service is available locally in Kabul and some other cities. Internet access through local service providers is limited.
