El Salvador - Travel Report

$5.95

El Salvador is a developing country in Central America. The capital is San Salvador. The primary products of El Salvador are processed food and beverages, textiles, chemical products, coffee, sugar, livestock, corn, and poultry. The main markets for these products are the United States, the European Union, and the Central American Common Market. The predominant religion in El Salvador is Roman Catholic, therefore the majority of the population celebrates traditional Roman Catholic holidays. Credit cards are acceptable for payment in many but not all retail stores and restaurants in major cities. Automatic teller machines with access to major U.S. bank networks are widely available in San Salvador but less prevalent elsewhere in the country. Visitors are encouraged to exchange currency only at official bureaux de change and banks. El Salvador is an earthquake-prone country. There is also the risk of flooding and landslides during the rainy season (June to November). General information about natural disaster preparedness is available via the Internet from the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) at http://www.fema.gov/.
