Dominica is an English-speaking developing Caribbean island nation. The capital is Roseau. There is no U.S Embassy or Consulate in Dominica. The U.S. Embassy in Bridgetown, Barbados, is responsible for American Citizens Services on the island of Dominica. The tourism industry is in the early stages of development; first-class tourist facilities are limited, but medium-range facilities are widely available. The average GDP of Dominica is $380 million (2002 est.). The primary products of Dominica are bananas, citrus fruits, soap, and cocoa. The predominant religion in Dominica is Roman Catholic, Major credit cards are accepted in limited locations. It is advisable to check with your provider before traveling. Travelers checks are accepted by most hotels. The import of local and foreign currency is unlimited although subject to declaration on arrival. The exportation amount of local currency and foreign currency is limited to amount declared upon arrival. Like all Caribbean countries, Dominica can be affected by hurricanes. The hurricane season normally runs from June to the end of November, but there have been hurricanes in December in recent years.
