The Cayman Islands are a British dependent territory consisting of three main islands with a total area of approximately 100 square miles and located about 100 miles west of Jamaica. Most major credit cards are accepted. All Caribbean countries can be affected by hurricanes. The height of hurricane season is from June 1 to November 30. Pro-active measures should be taken to be prepared in the event of a hurricane. The U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) can provide information about natural disaster preparedness. To avoid additional exchange rate charges, travelers checks should be brought in U.S. currency.
