Bermuda is a highly developed British overseas territory with a modern economy. The average GDP of Bermuda is $2.33 billion (2003 est.). Tourism accounts for roughly 28% of the GDP. The major Bermuda exports commodity is reexport of pharmaceuticals. The major exports partners are France, Peru, and UK. The predominant religion in Bermuda is Protestant, therefore a majority of the population celebrates traditional Protestant holidays. ATM machines are widely available in Bermuda. Local banks do not accept checks drawn on U.S. accounts, but some Front Street stores catering to the tourist trade will accept U.S. checks as payment. The local American Express office will cash U.S. checks up to $500.00 for a three-percent fee. Credit cards are widely accepted at all establishments. There is no limit on the import of foreign or local currency, provided that it was declared upon arrival.
