Barbados is an independent island nation in the Caribbean with a moderately developed economy. The average GDP of Barbados is $4.496 billion (2003 est.). The primary contributor to the GDP is tourism. The main exports of Barbados are food, beverages, sugar, and fabricated products. The predominant religion in Barbados is Anglican, therefore most of the traditional Anglican holidays are observed by the majority of the local population. Credit cards are accepted in most hotels and resorts although cash is preferred for customs duty payments. Travelers checks are widely accepted. The import of local currency is unlimited; however, subject to declaration. The exportation of local currency is prohibited.
