Slovenia is a parliamentary democracy. The capital is Ljubjana. In May 2004, Slovenia became a member of the European Union. The average GDP is $36.89 billion (2003 est.). The primary products of Slovenia are wheat, corn, electrical equipment, textiles, and wood products. The major trading partners of Slovenia are Germany, Italy, France and Austria. The predominant religion in Slovenia is Roman Catholic, therefore, a majority of the population celebrates traditional Roman catholic holidays. While credit cards are accepted at well-known establishments, cash is preferred. Credit cards can be utilized to obtain cash advances from banks. Travelers checks are widely accepted.
