Croatia is a moderately developed nation in Southeastern Europe, currently making a transition to a market economy. The average GDP is $47.14 billion (2003 est.). The primary export products are transport equipment, textiles, chemicals, foodstuffs, and fuels. The major export partners are Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, Slovenia, and Austria. The predominant religion in Croatia is Catholic, so most of the traditional Catholic holidays are observed by the majority of the Croatian population. With the prevalence of ATM’s and acceptance of credit cards, traveler’s checks are becoming accepted less and frequently exchanged at unfavorable rates. Western Union money transfer is available. The importation and exportation of foreign currency is unlimited although some restrictions may apply on importation and exportation of local currency.
