Brunei is a small Islamic Sultanate on the northwest coast of the Island of Borneo in Southeastern Asia. Tourist facilities are generally good. Crude oil and natural gas production account for more than half of the GDP of the country. Brunei's GDP is $6.5 billion (2002 est.). Major exports partners are Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Australia, US, China, and Singapore. The predominant religion in Brunei is Islam, therefore a majority of the population celebrates traditional Islamic holidays. Most major credit cards are accepted. It is however advisable to inquire with your financial institution regarding acceptability of credit cards in Brunei. It is advisable to take travelers checks in U.S. currency to avoid most exchange rate charges.
