Angola is a large, developing country in southern Africa. The capital is Luanda. The estimated GDP of Angola in 2003 was $20.59 billion. The primary export products of Angola are crude oil, diamonds, refined petroleum products, gas, coffee, fish, timber, and cotton. The predominant export partners of Angola are the United States, China, France, Belgium and Spain. The predominant religion in Angola is indigenous beliefs, although a large portion of the population associates with Roman Catholicism. The country of Angola is generally considered to be a cash economy. Travelers' checks and credit cards are not widely accepted. Automatic Teller Machines are not widely available. Travelers are advised to carry sufficient U.S. currency funds. Angola will only exchange the newer series of U.S. currency (with the large faces). Travelers are advised to remember that Kwanza may not be taken out of the country and all currency must be converted back before departure.
